Jitendra came to limelight in 1967 with Ravikant Nagaich's film Farz, which became a golden jubilee success of that time. He became a style icon, with the tee shirt and white shoes he wore for the song "Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq" in Farz, sung by Mohammed Rafi. For his intense and lively dance in films like Farz (1967), Humjoli (1970), and Caravan (1971) he was called the 'Jumping Jack of Bollywood'.
Jitendra is a celebrated actor of Indian film industry. He was born on 7th April, 1942, in Mumbai as Ravi Kapoor. He was given a chance in films in the late 1950s by V. Shantaram in Navrang (1959) and Sehra (1963). But his first break in a lead role was in Shantaram's film Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne (1964). Since then, he has acted in more than 200 films. Jitendra married Shobha Kapoor, and has a son Tusshar Kapoor, an actor of Bollywood, and a daughter, Ekta Kapoor, a film producer.
