Normally when a reality TV star tries to become an actor we're stuck with Colleen Haskell in "The Animal," or "The Scorned." But "The Real World: San Diego's" Jamie Chung has not only seamlessly made the transition, but she's poised to become the most successful one-time reality star ever.
After guest starring gigs on "Veronica Mars," "ER" and "CSI: NY" Jamie has made the impressive leap to leading lady with ABC Family's new miniseries "Samurai Girl" - a job, Jamie tells Pop Wrap, she had to fight tooth and nail for.
Pop Wrap: How did you land the role of Heaven in "Samurai Girl?"
Jamie Chung: I wanted this part so badly because it was an extraordinary opportunity to play the Asian lead in a series - that's so rare. I knew they tested some other girls, and I think they originally wanted to go Hapa - which is half Asian, half white - but none of those girls worked out.
PW: So you got called back.
Jamie: Yea, and from that point on I really got put through the ringer. I kept testing and testing and testing - for the writers, for the network, for the studio - it was the most challenging set of auditions I'd ever done. But my whole attitude was "Bring it! I want this."
